about us
• Our History •

First in line, Mitsuyo Maeda, the Japanese with unparalleled skill, brought the gentle art to Brazil.

Next, Carlos Gracie Sr., Maeda’s first student and the first Gracie to ever learn Jiu-Jitsu.

Third, Hélio Gracie, Carlos’ brother and the best Gracie fighter of his time.

Fourth, Rolls Gracie, is a true jiu-jitsu innovator and champion of Brazilian jiu jitsu philosophy.

And finally, Carlos Gracie, Jr., the founder of Gracie Barra and the visionary of the JIU-JITSU FOR EVERYONE® project. It’s our tradition of recollecting the lives of great Masters and practitioners, both as a mark of gratitude and appreciation and as a source of inspiration from which we may still learn.

Prof. Rodrigo

Black Belt Lineage - Head Instructor

Rodrigo Magalhães Cesário was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1996 and raised in Belo Horizonte, where his love for sports began with soccer. At 14, inspired by his middle brother — then a blue belt — Rodrigo stepped onto the mats for his first Jiu-Jitsu class. From that moment, he fell in love with the art and never stopped training.

Rodrigo developed his skills at Gracie Barra FP, where he had the privilege of training under and alongside some of the biggest names in the sport, including his professor Felipe Pena and world champion Gabriel Arges. Surrounded by high-level athletes, he dedicated himself fully to mastering Jiu-Jitsu and the lifestyle that comes with it. Over the years, Rodrigo earned medals across multiple organizations, always pushing himself to perform at the highest level.

In 2018, driven by the dream of becoming a professional athlete, Rodrigo moved to the United States on his own. After five years of training and competing in Florida, he relocated to Texas, where his mission grew beyond competition — evolving into a commitment to shape the next generation of champions.

For the past three years, Rodrigo has been teaching Jiu-Jitsu daily. While he continues to compete, his mindset has shifted: every match is now an opportunity to motivate his students and teammates, showing them what discipline, perseverance, and passion can achieve. His greatest joy comes from working with kids, helping them build confidence, character, and resilience through Jiu-Jitsu.

Rodrigo comes from a family deeply rooted in the sport. He is the youngest of three brothers — one a black belt and the other a brown belt — all dedicated to the art that transformed their lives. Together, they continue to share Jiu-Jitsu’s philosophy and power, inspiring others to grow, persevere, and reach their full potential.

As a coach and trainer, Pauline is dedicated to empowering kids, adults, and especially women through the art of Jiu-Jitsu. She brings authenticity, grit, and genuine care to the mats—helping students build confidence, resilience, and strength in every season of life.

Prof. Gabriel Arges

Black Belt Lineage - Head Instructor

Gabriel Arges began his martial arts journey in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, starting with Muay Thai at age 14 before transitioning to Jiu-Jitsu. He earned his black belt under Professor Romulo Barral, one of the most respected figures in the sport, and quickly rose to prominence for his precise guard and calm under pressure.

A 3x IBJJF World Champion, Arges also holds major titles like the Pan Ams, European Open, and Abu Dhabi World Pro. Beyond competition, he’s committed to teaching and mentoring students through seminars, instructional content, and daily leadership on the mats.

He is the owner of Gracie Barra Thousand Oaks in California and Gracie Barra Frisco in Texas — where he builds strong communities through Jiu-Jitsu, discipline, and respect.

Today, Professor Arges continues to inspire the next generation, balancing world-class technique with the values and mindset that define a true martial artist.

Black Belt Lineage - Head Instructor

My Jiu-Jitsu journey began in Indaiatuba, Brazil, under Professor Rodrigo Farol. I later taught kids and adults at Gracie Barra North Phoenix — home of GB North America, GB Online, and GB Events — and helped edit official GB curriculum and instructor training videos used worldwide.

In Tyler, TX, I launched the city’s first women-only GBF class, creating a safe and empowering space for women on the mats.

Today, I serve as Head Coach at Gracie Barra Tyler and lead our expansion across the Dallas–Fort Worth region, including the opening of Gracie Barra Frisco.

I’m proudly under Professor Flavio Almeida, one of the first students of GB’s original school in Barra da Tijuca, Brazil. He helped Master Carlos Gracie Jr. bring Jiu-Jitsu to North America and Canada, shaping the movement we carry on today.
